VAT Senior Associate

The IBFD Knowledge Centre is home to most of the tax specialists within IBFD. It is a publications and research department with staff engaged in updating and reviewing IBFD’s publications, conducting research in international tax, and lecturing on various tax topics. The Knowledge Centre is comprised of several Knowledge Groups focused either on particular geographic regions or on specialist international tax topics. The research staff of the Knowledge Centre is drawn from all over the world, having expertise in the tax systems of various countries, as well as specialization in key areas of taxation.
Currently, we have a challenging position for a VAT Senior Associate.
The VAT Knowledge Group is part of IBFD’s Knowledge Centre. This group is responsible for covering indirect tax developments including VAT (GST), customs, excises duties and environmental taxes across the world in e.g. news reports, country tax guides, case law summaries and dossiers.
The VAT Specialist will be responsible for the timely and accurate managing and editing of a selection of VAT publications. The Senior Associate will also help developing policies to maintain and ensure a unified and seamless technical and editorial process with respect to the VAT publications. In addition, the VAT Specialist will be involved in developing new (digital) interactive products and services. In this role, the Senior Associate will work closely with other team members specialized in VAT, but also with Managers and staff of the various Knowledge Groups within the IBFD Knowledge Centre, as well as the Production Coordination Department. The Senior Associate will report to the Manager of the VAT, Transfer Pricing and Specialist Knowledge Group.
Main responsibilities
Review and edit VAT publications.
- Responsible for new product development in the area of VAT/GST/sales taxes.
- Assist with other publications on an ad hoc basis and answer questions about the content.
- Relationship-building and relationship management (for authors, correspondents, and allied organisations).
- Provide support to other departments of IBFD for example the Capacity Building & Tailored Services Department and Training Delivery.
- Participate in client requests.
Requirements
- University degree in law, accounting, economics or other relevant area (a relevant post-graduate qualification – vocational or academic – is a distinct advantage)
- 5 to 7 years experience in domestic and european indirect tax law of one or more jurisdictions. Knowledge of customs law is an advantage
- Keen interest in and experience with data analytics and (tax software) tools
- Proven project management skills, working in teams and contributing to high-performing teams
- Excellent writing, proofreading and editing skills
- Very good presentation skills
- Excellent communication skills and a keen eye for detail
- Native (or equivalent) command of the English language (knowledge of other languages will be an advantage)
- You are curious and always eager to learn

Salary & fringe benefits
We offer you a full-time (37 hours) position with a starting salary, depending on background and relevant work experience, between €4,700 and €5,200 gross per month. This is completed by an attractive package of fringe benefits, including:
